About Sunshine
What happened to unu?
unu GmbH went insolvent. Their cloud got shut down. The SIM cards in every scooter were deactivated. Thousands of unu Scooter Pros lost remote access, trip tracking, and firmware updates overnight.
The scooters still ride fine. They charge, they lock, they go. But everything that made them "connected" is gone.
What is Sunshine?
Sunshine is a replacement cloud for the unu Scooter Pro, built by the community. It brings back what unu took with them: real-time tracking, trip statistics, remote lock/unlock, scooter sharing, movement alerts.
It's free, open-source, and run by Starsong GmbH.
Supported models
unu Scooter Pro (2020 and later, with MDB/DBC boards). Older unu models are not supported.
What is Radio Gaga?
Radio Gaga is a small service that runs on your scooter's stock firmware. It talks to Sunshine over MQTT, sending telemetry and receiving commands. Your original firmware stays untouched.
You install it over SSH once your scooter has a working internet connection.
What is LibreScoot?
LibreScoot is a separate project that replaces the entire stock firmware. It adds offline navigation, a motion alarm, keycard management, and a lot more. It has its own connectivity, but also supports Radio Gaga.
If you just want cloud features back, Radio Gaga on the stock firmware is the quicker path. If you want full control over the scooter's software, look at LibreScoot.
What do I need?
- A replacement SIM card. The original MFF2 SIM is dead. You need to swap it out (yourself or through a service).
- A Sunshine account. Invite-only, but codes are free on Discord.
- Radio Gaga installed. One command over SSH, once your scooter is online.
